Optimum cutting results even in sub-zero Canadian temperatures

Precise and customised WIKUS band saw blade technology in wood processing.

The nature of wood as a material is subject to many influences. These include climatic conditions. It can therefore be a challenge to achieve optimum cutting results. With the GENERO® bimetal band saw blade, WIKUS offers an efficient sawing solution that enables precise sawing even under the toughest conditions. For the Canadian customer Ted's Timber, it improves efficiency and quality in the long term.

Customer Profile

Ted’s Timber is a wood processing company based in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, (Canada). A total of six independent companies work on the Ted's Timber site. One of them is Tyler Forster.

The company specialises in manufacturing beams and boards as semi-finished products and supplies West Fraser Timber, one of North America’s largest timber providers. The contract covers the delivery of 1.5 million board feet (approximately 3,540 cubic metres of timber) of semi-finished products per year.

Challenges & Requirements

Due to the remote location of Ted’s Timber, a long blade-life is crucial to reducing logistics and shipping costs for resharpening. In addition, fluctuating weather conditions such as frost and moisture pose a challenge. As changes in the climate cause the surface of the timber to swell, which affects cutting performance and leads to increased chip build-up in the cutting channel.

The solution

In the Canadian Rocky Montains, our GENERO® bimetall band saw blade demonstrates ist strengths in the video.

Three times longer tool life when cutting wood with GENERO®.

When Ted’s Timber sought an improved solution for its cutting requirements, the distribution partner All Blades Canada recommended the WIKUS GENERO® bimetal bandsaw blade. Following initial successful tests on the Woodmizer LT40 with dimensions 158” x 1 3/8 x 1.15K, Ted's Timber has made GENERO® the new standard band saw blade in the company.

GENERO® ensures consistent cutting results in wood processing.

The blade impressed with a threefold longer lifespan compared to the previously used carbon steel blades (Ripper 37), improved surface quality, and a more uniform cut. These benefits led to increased efficiency and reduced operating costs for Ted’s Timber.
