As the hardest known cutting material, diamond has a high compressive strength and a high modulus of elasticity in addition to its hardness property. This makes diamond a preferred material for high-strength precision tools. In addition to being used as a cutting material for non-ferrous metals and aluminum, diamond is also used for cutting hard and abrasive materials such as silicon, natural stone, glass and concrete. It cannot be used as a cutting material for steel due to carbon diffusion.
