Exchange on the Future of Germany as an Industrial Hub

Spangenberg, August 11, 2026 – What political and economic framework conditions are needed to ensure that industry can continue to manufacture successfully in Germany, invest in growth, and safeguard jobs in the future? These topics were discussed by the WIKUS management team and Dr. Philipp Rottwilm, Member of the German Bundestag, during his visit to the company's headquarters in Spangenberg.

Following an introduction to the WIKUS Saw Center, Dr. Rottwilm toured selected production areas and gained valuable insights into manufacturing operations and the challenges faced by an internationally active industrial company. The discussions focused on the competitiveness of Germany as a manufacturing location and the current framework conditions for producing industries.

Among the key topics were the impact of high energy costs on energy-intensive production processes, the importance of competitive industrial electricity prices, and the future of the steel industry as the foundation of numerous industrial value chains. The participants also discussed the need for significant bureaucracy reduction and faster approval and investment procedures.

Member of the German Bundestag Dr. Philipp Rottwilm used his visit to Spangenberg to gain insights into the current challenges and future prospects facing Germany’s SME industrial sector during discussions with the WIKUS management team.

Reliable Prospects for Industrial SMEs

A key conclusion of the exchange was that industrial SMEs require long-term planning certainty. Competitive energy costs, predictable political framework conditions, and a clear industrial policy strategy are essential prerequisites for driving innovation, enabling sustainable growth, and securing manufacturing locations in Germany over the long term.
For WIKUS, a global manufacturer of band saw blades, direct dialogue with political decision-makers is an important element in shaping discussions on the future of industry. Dr. Philipp Rottwilm's visit highlighted the importance of close cooperation between business and politics in order to make challenges from industrial practice visible and jointly develop sustainable solutions for Germany as an industrial hub.
