WIKUS expands its carbide portfolio with new MARADUR® band saw blade

Europe’s largest band saw blade manufacturer offers carbide band saw blades for a wide range of production requirements. The latest innovation, MARADUR®, allows users to make the switch to carbide sawing on almost all bandsaw machines – either with or without carbide package – and thus achieve higher cutting performance.

Spangenberg, September 19, 2024: With MARADUR®, WIKUS-Sägenfabrik Wilhelm H. Kullmann GmbH & Co. KG is expanding its product portfolio with an innovative entry-level product in the carbide sector. The newly developed band saw blade features a set tooth geometry, which enables optimal adaptation to different machine types and thus offers the greatest possible flexibility for machine use in manufacturing companies.

MARADUR® – Especially for machines with and without a carbide package

MARADUR® can be used for cutting construction, tool, and tempering steels and is suitable for processing both solid materials and thick-walled tubes.

The special feature: MARADUR® can be used on band saws – either with or without a carbide package. This makes it particularly attractive for users who have previously used bimetal band saw blades on their machines and now have an increased power requirement because of a higher workload or an increase in the number of orders.

MARADUR® also enables smaller companies to process more demanding materials without making a major investment. You can also use the new carbide band saw blade on older or simple swing-frame machines without a carbide package. This increases the efficiency and improves throughput times.

“New product developments at WIKUS are always a combination of current market requirements and innovations from our development department. MARADUR® now enables our customers to use a carbide-tipped band saw blade on their existing machine and thus achieve a considerably higher cutting performance,” explains Rolf Wiederhold, International Product Manager at WIKUS.

With this product extension, the band saw blade manufacturer is underlining the WIKUS quality promise, which also includes the continuous development of innovative sawing solutions.

Development and production of carbide band saw blades

The beneficial properties of carbide have been used in the industry for over 100 years. WIKUS also relies on the numerous advantages of this material in its product development. The company has been manufacturing carbide-tipped band saw blades at its site in Spangenberg since the 1990s. WIKUS uses machines developed and built in-house to bond the hard metals to a highly tempered carrier band.

“With the introduction of MARADUR®, we now produce 20 different uncoated carbide band saw blades as well as ones with a carbine coating. For this purpose, we at WIKUS have designed our own production lines, which we are continually developing in order to be able to produce carbide band saw blades suitable for almost any application,” explains Dr. Patrick Gleim, Head of Research and Development at WIKUS.

The innovative carbide band saw blades are not only used for a wide variety of steels, special alloys, and non-ferrous metals but also for unusual applications: from the research and development of materials for competition-ready sports equipment for Olympic medal contenders to the production of high-temperature, hot forged parts to the sawing of high-alloy components for the aerospace industry.

About MARADUR® – Technical insights

Made in state-of-the-art carbide production, MARADUR® is considerably more resistant than a bimetal product. MARADUR® features an innovative precision-ground cutting geometry and set teeth. The new band saw blade is now available with a step set and, if required, as a widely set band saw blade for use on materials with high internal stresses.

The advantages of MARADUR® at a glance:

  • Flexible machine use with and without carbide package
  • Low vibration and quiet running properties
  • Robust carbide cutting edges resist even higher forces
  • Positive rake angle to reduce cutting forces
  • Less set-up time thank to longer blade life compared with bimetal sawing tools
  • Economical and powerful and therefore ideal for entering the carbide segment
